Video: Women’s Heart Attack Symptoms

Don’t ignore these symptoms – they may mean you’re having a heart attack.

Women can have different heart attack symptoms than men. Unlike men, severe chest pain is not the only symptom. Watch the video above to learn more about common symptoms women may experience prior to or during a heart attack.

Women’s heart attack symptoms may include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Nausea, indigestion or vomiting
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Lightheadedness
  • Pain in the arm, back, neck, jaw or stomach
  • Chest pain or pressure

Women’s symptoms are subtle. That’s why women often ignore them.

Sometimes the symptoms listed above and in the video are all women experience. If chest symptoms occur, the feeling is often described as discomfort, heaviness or tightness and not pain. It is most concerning if you have a combination of symptoms together, such as shortness of breath and back pain or nausea. Also, sweatiness is another symptom that should not be ignored if it occurs along with chest discomfort or jaw pain.

If you experience these symptoms, don’t ignore them. Call 911. You don’t want to be driving yourself to a hospital in case your condition suddenly gets worse and impairs your ability to drive. Even if you are a passenger in a car, the driver might not be able or qualified to assist you.
