Are You Up For the Challenge?

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the grind and forget the simple, yet incredibly effective, activity that greatly benefits our physical and mental well-being: walking.

Unfortunately, many of us struggle to fit in steps throughout the day.

Starting a walking challenge with friends could be the perfect motivation to get moving and have fun while doing it. 

For some motivation, why not encourage some friendly competition? Create a step competition in your Motivation Alliance portal and invite your friends to join – the perfect way to inspire them and you to get moving!

It’s easy to set up and even easier if you have an app to connect (like if you wear an Apple Watch and connect your Health app to your Motivation Alliance account!). Simply navigate to Programs in your portal, click +Create, and it will walk you through how to do it step-by-step! Don’t forget to check out the “Connecting Your App” guide in Resources for instructions and FAQs.

Once you’ve set up the competition and invited your friends, it’s time to get those daily steps in! Need a little help to increase your step count? Check out the tips below!

Set a Daily Step Goal

Navigate to the Steps page in your portal to set up a daily goal so you have something to strive toward! Make sure to choose something that is motivating but attainable.

Sneak in Extra Steps When You Can

While there are many benefits to going on walks, there are also huge benefits to increasing your overall activity throughout the day! Below are a few ideas:

  • Next time you’re parking somewhere, park in a farther spot to get a few extra steps in.
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator whenever you can.
  • Set a reminder on your computer or phone to get up and walk around at least once an hour.
  • Next time you have a meeting that doesn’t require a screenshare or conference room, suggest a walking meeting!
  • Do a lap at the store before starting your shopping.
  • Take a longer route when walking the dog.

Share Your Journey

Use the chat feature in the challenge so you and your friends can share your daily walking milestones! It’s a great way to encourage and motivate each other.

Try Somewhere New!

Discover local parks, nature trails, or even plan walking routes around your city. Not only will it make walking feel less monotonous, but it’ll also give you the chance to explore parts of your neighborhood or town you’ve never seen before.
